Welcome
to Palo Alto Housing Corporation's (PAHC) resource section for finding
affordable rental housing in our properties.
PAHC's mission is to promote low, very low and moderate-income
rental housing in Palo Alto. Our goals are to provide decent, safe
and sanitary housing for low-income people who live or work in Palo
Alto, subsidize the rent to the greatest degree possible and attend to
the human needs tenants may have through our resident service program.Finding housing in general is a difficult task in such an expensive community. Finding housing that is affordable because it is subsidized in various ways is really daunting. Fortunately, The Palo Alto Housing Corporation has been working for more than 35 years to provide housing opportunities for households with diverse income levels. We have twenty rental properties in the City of Palo Alto of varying sizes and in every area of the city! The world of affordable housing has rules and regulations that potential tenants should be aware of before they enter the application process. These rules are in place to assure that people are eligible and in need of assistance with housing. This section of our website will help you understand that it is really not that complicated! There are several programs that fund the development of affordable housing. They are federal, state, and local programs. The requirements can differ as to income eligibility and rent levels. That can be confusing sometimes. Because of that funding and regulatory framework PAHC administers general rules about household income limits both HUD resident selection criteria and non HUD resident selection criteria. The applicable limits vary in the different rental communities because of funding sources of type of property (family, senior, single-room occupancy). Household income must be verified to determine eligibility. Please look at our list of properties, along with the property map. You can see the different locations, the different sizes, the different rent levels and the type of resident a property is designed for. This will give you a better idea of which property might suite your needs. There are waiting lists for all PAHC properties. The waiting lists are kept at the individual properties rather than at the PAHC Office. Some waiting lists are open and new applicants may add their name at any time by submitting a Rental Housing Waiting List Application to the property directly. Other properties have closed waiting lists because so many are already on the list. In general, PAHC will open waiting lists in September of each year if there is a need for more applicants. Interested tenants can click on an individual property on the property list on this site, or contact the Site Manager at the property, for the status of the waiting list. PAHC is aware that lower-income households often struggle with other issues when housing expense is such a large burden. While decreased rent can certainly help, there are other problems that may develop, for which tenants need assistance. PAHC has a Resident Service Program to assist our resident with those situations. The goal of the Program is to foster community connections, facilitate access to resources, and provide opportunities for personal goal achievement for resident of PAHC's housing communities. You can see the Resident Services Program in action at the PAHC Resident Services website. Fair Housing Policy. PAHC will not discriminate against any person or persons on any basis prohibited by law. |
